Dreaming of My Mother from Where Art & Life Meet

Laughing with Mom – Photo by John Kelly “Have you dreamt about her?” This was a question a number of people asked after my mother died.  But I wasn’t.  I hadn’t.  In fact I couldn’t remember dreaming about anything or anyone, until this past week.  Maybe it was because it was the first Thanksgiving since she […]

A Stitching Book: Tell Me What YOU Want to See from Where Art & Life Meet

I’m working on a Left-Handed Stitching book. It’s a HUGE project, but I’m determined and am taking it one small stitch at a time. Yesterday I was working on a Threaded Backstitch and so I began to stitch on a piece of linen that I whipstitched some wool shapes onto. Once I had done one… Continue reading A Stitching Book: Tell Me What YOU Want to See

What I Did Over the Weekend… from Where Art & Life Meet

I spent at least 16 hours this weekend analyzing and stitching examples of the Trellis Stitch. Specifically the spiral trellis stitch, which was one of dozens of stitches that adorned the Plimoth Jacket, a women’s waistcoat, made in the early 1600’s. Another heavily embroidered jacket is in the costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum here… Continue reading What I Did Over the Weekend…

Had a tough night or day? Here. Watch this. Courtesy of my mother – a dose of sweetness. Thanks Mom. ❤️ I completely forgot to post anything yesterday morning. Even more egregious, I forgot one of my brother’s birthdays and yesterday finally remembered to call him more than a week late. Thankfully, he once forgot… Continue reading Sweetness, Forgetfulness & Finishings

Life has utterly changed in such a short time, it has left most of us reeling. And yet, we find ways to adapt. It is… Continue reading Coping and the Pandemic In New York City

When Times are Tough… from Where Art & Life Meet

My version above of a meme by @stitchesnquilts that I saw on Instagram the other day and it made me laugh so I wanted to share my tweaked version of it. Because boy do I crave laughter right now. The meme below, another that has been making the rounds, made me smile. And who doesn’t… Continue reading When Times are Tough…

YouTube, Blogging, Stitching & Life from Where Art & Life Meet

Things have been busy around here. I had the idea to start a YouTube channel over a year ago. My thought was to go through Sue Spargo’s Creative Stitching book and demonstrate every stitch (but for left-handed stitchers) featured in her book, one stitch a week. I discussed my idea with Anna Bates, my friend… Continue reading YouTube, Blogging, Stitching & Life
